Market researchers’ statistics all recorded that global PC sales improved in the second quarter of 2024, with 62.8 million units sold globally.
Specifically, Canalys data shows that 62.8 million personal computers, including laptops and desktops, were sold globally in the second quarter of 2024, an increase of 3.4% over the same period last year.

Of which, the number of laptops consumed reached 50 million units, an increase of 4% compared to the second quarter of 2023. Desktop computers consumed 12.8% of units, a slight increase of 1% compared to the second quarter of 2023.
This marks the third consecutive quarter of positive growth for the PC market. According to experts, the momentum of the past quarter came from Microsoft’s introduction of the Copilot+ standard for computers capable of solving artificial intelligence (AI) tasks. Apple’s announcement of Apple Intelligence for Mac also “contributed” to the general shopping wave.
Additionally, the PC market has also benefited from the Windows 11 upgrade cycle, with Microsoft repeatedly urging users to abandon Windows 10, which is about to end technical support.
By manufacturer, Lenovo maintained its global market leadership, shipping 14.7 million units in Q2 2024, up 4% year-on-year. HP followed closely with 13.7 million units, ahead of Dell with 10.1 million.

Dell was the only PC maker to see a decline in sales, with a 2% decline between Q2 2024 and Q2 2023. The decline was largely due to a sharp decline in demand in its home market, the US. In fourth place, Apple shipped 5.5 million computers, accounting for 9% of the market, marking a 6% increase from the same period last year.
A notable development is that Asus has surpassed Acer, entering the Top 5 manufacturers with the best sales globally for the first time. The success of the Taiwanese (Chinese) computer company comes from gaming computer products. Asus is also the company with the highest growth in Q2-2024, with Q2-2024 sales increasing 17% year-on-year to 4.5 million units.

Analysts believe that the personal computer market will continue to be vibrant and grow steadily for at least the next four quarters, thanks to the wave of upgrades to Windows 11 and the emergence of AI features that require hardware to meet this requirement.
